THE ART OF SEDUCTION

THE ART OF SEDUCTION :
By Robert Greener

The Art of Seduction is a masterful synthesis of the work of thinkers such as Freud, Ovid, Kierkegaard, and Einstein, as well as the achievements of the greatest seducers throughout history. From Cleopatra to John F. Kennedy, from Andy Warhol to Josephine Bonaparte, The Art of Seduction gets to the heart of the character of the seducer and his or her tactics, triumphs and failures. The seducer's many faces include: the Siren, the Rake, the Ideal Lover, the Dandy, the Natural, the Coquette, the Charmer, and the Charismatic. Twenty-four maneuvers will guide readers through the seduction process, providing cunning, amoral instructions for and analysis of this fascinating, all-pervasive form of power. The Art of Seduction is an indispensable primer of persuasion and offers the best lessons on how to take what you want from whomever you want or how to prevent yourself from being taken.

PLAYING IT MY WAY

PLAYING IT MY WAY
 My Autobiography by Sachin Tendulkar

"I’m delighted that my autobiography #PlayingitMyWay will be published on November 6, this year.

I knew that agreeing to write my story would need me to be completely honest, as that’s the way I have always played the game. It would require talking about a number of aspects I have not shared in public before.

So here I am, at the end of my final innings, having taken that last walk back to the pavilion, ready to recount as many incidents as I can remember since first picking up a cricket bat as a child in Mumbai thirty-five years ago." - Sachin Tendulkar

FLASHES OF THOUGHT.

"FLASHES OF THOUGHT"

The Book “Flashes of Thought” is one of the greatest contributions of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai President who is considered the founder of systematic Strategic planning in the UAE Government, and he has pioneered many innovative ideas in the public and commercial spheres, both locally and nationally.

This book represents a collection of concise messages, ideas and thoughts presented in 36 chapters with the main aim of pointing out the role of government in working towards the well-being of peopleand observing government as an authority at the service of the people and not the authority over the people. The foreword of the book was written by Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.

It’s a good read on modern governance and how leaders can combine enterprise with excellence if there is the political will to push through economic initiatives.

IN THE FIRST CHAPTER, the author is explaining what really government’s job is. In his opinion, the government’s job is to achieve happiness for its people, and they are the government’s second and third priority. He sees the government as an active part of society, never as something that is separated and isolated. The government works for the people, achieves its objectives through the people and measures its success through their satisfaction. The mission of the government is to please its people and to build a promising future for their children.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum reflects on the government of the future in the next chapter. His first and foremost concern is to make government closer to people, faster, better and more responsive in providing its services.

The third and fourth chapters of the book offer the author’s insights about positive energy and Positive thinking as well as the development priorities of the UAE.

In the fifth chapter, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed writes that people should have their own distinct personalities, and they should have pride in their language and their heritage.

The sixth chapter of the book explains the motives for building the tallest building man has ever seen – Burj Khalifa. The name of the building was chosen to honour the President of UAE, Sheikh Khalifa, and Downtown Burj Khalifa has become a key landmark for all visitors to Dubai and UAE.

In the next chapter, the author focuses on the “Spirit of the Union” which is the official brand For UAE National Day celebrations. Its logo is a stylized silhouette based on the iconic photograph of seven founding fathers at the birth of the UAE on 2 December 1971.

The UAE is the most successful union in contemporary Arab history. According to the author, the success of the 42-year-old nation teaches important historical lessons to whoever wishes to draw upon them.

Eight and ninth chapters of the book focus on one day in the author’s life, and on being Number one. Since life was created simple it is important to live it as such is a mantra of Sheikh His Highness Sheikh Mohammed. The simplicity starts in the heart, away from negativism and pessimism.

His advice to all is to live a simple life. In Sheikh Mohammed’s opinion, UAE is no less than number one. Nobody remembers runners-up. Whoever convinces himself that he is not worthy of the first position has doomed himself to failure from the very beginning. His people and he are fond of being number one. There is no alternative to the first position, and the word impossible is nowhere to be found in the vocabulary of the UAE. The best is exactly what you will get if you accept no less.

The author refers to empowering women in the tenth chapter, and horse riding, poetry and Leadership in the eleventh chapter of this book. Some people, usually from abroad, wonder about the empowerment of women in UAE society.

His first advice is to acquire knowledge and surpass others in knowledge. Knowledge is the shortest path to victory, even in sports. His second advice refers to training, training and more training. To become a world champion he trained his body as well as himself to setting different strategies to reach the finishing line. He also trained his horse to increase his stamina.

His final advice is to trust in God and in yourself and to be optimistic. These psychological elements are most important of all because they distinguish you from your opponents!

The last two chapters of the book are dedicated to the importance of horses for the Emirati People, and to sound leaders in sound bodies. The relationship of Emirati people to horses comes from their Arab roots and that perpetuates the sport of their ancestors. Nowadays, horse raiding represents their identity, their pride in their heritage and their high morals, which they are instilling in their younger generations.

Other than Flashes of Thought Sheikh Mohammed wrote a book “My Vision”: Challenges in the Race for Excellence in which he examines in more detail aspects of UAE’s unique development experience.

Ideas presented in both books encompass the idea that the public sector should be better than the private sector; the role of positive energy, optimism and creativity in a country’s development; excellence as a way of living; removing word impossible from people’s dictionary; the confidence in its own people; replacing criterion of seniority with the principle of competence etc.

Those ideas are not heard of in many countries in the world, and even if these ideas are heard of they are not real unlike in Dubai and UAE.

The transformation of Dubai and UAE into one-world centers should be an example of development for all countries in the world. According to a saying the day a person starts thinking that he succeeded that is the day of his downfall. Thereby, Sheikh Mohammed’s recipe for success is to continually raise the bar whenever people reach their goals.

In a world full of “leaders” with empty words and suits this book is must read for anyone who wants to succeed in the political, public and private arena since Sheikh Mohammed does not talk the talks – instead, he walks the walk!

While living and enjoying the beauty of Dubai, I always remember the beauty in the eyes of the Dubai ruler, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

May almighty bless him more, and also bless the people living in his country!!.

A modern alternative to SparkNotes and CliffsNotes, SuperSummary offers high-quality study guides that feature detailed chapter summaries and analysis of major themes, characters, quotes, and essay topics.

OVERVIEW

When Breath Becomes Air is a memoir by Paul Kalanithi. It was published in 2016. Kalanithi tells the story of his battle with cancer while being a practicing neurosurgeon. The book is organized chronologically, following the trajectory of his life from childhood to death, and is laced with deep philosophical thought and literary prose. His meditations combine the expertise of a professional with the experience of a patient, resulting in a book that communicates extremely profound meaning about life and death.

Kalanithi grew up in Arizona, closely acquainted with nature and moments of solitude. He’d always loved reading and, upon entering college, studies biology and literature. It is during these years that he realizes the need to not only study but to live, to immerse himself in his surroundings. His master’s program in English literature proves unfulfilling, and he decides to pursue medical school.

Some of his clearest memories of medical school involve the study of cadavers. It is at this point that Paul first experiences the duality of practicing medicine. As he continues to learn and grow through his studies, he realizes the ways in which he becomes calloused to moments that might otherwise be traumatizing. The body exists as both miraculous and quotidian. He chooses neurosurgery as his concentration.

He marries his girlfriend, Lucy, after medical school and they move to California for their respective residencies. At Stanford, Paul often works a hundred hours per week, and, although the majority of his first year is spent pushing paperwork, he quickly gains responsibility for patients. Having experienced the spectrum of tasks at the hospital, he realizes the potential for good he has during every interaction with his patients. The proper tone during a brief counseling session can influence the patient’s entire outlook on his or her illness and recovery. As the years of his residency accumulate, Paul quickly rises to the top of his field, gaining a physical and emotional capacity in his work that qualify him for his dream jobs.

Paul, however, soon begins suffering symptoms that send him to the doctor. He’s unsure how to navigate his concern, which only pushes Lucy away from him. They are on the brink of separation when Paul is diagnosed with cancer.

In the years that follow, Paul works to finish his residency while coping with his illness. He pushes himself to continue working in the OR until he has to begin cancer treatment. He chooses a treatment plan–a pill–that is most likely to allow him to continue in his profession. It is during this time that he begins reconstructing what the rest of his life will look like. What if he cannot continue neurosurgery? What if he has one year to live, rather than twenty? He sees the fates of his patients reflected in his own decisions and is forced to ask himself what it is that makes life meaningful.

Paul does not want the rest of his life to be spent avoiding his sadness; he wants to work within his limitations, while finding what provides his life with the most meaning. Thus, he and Lucy decide to have a child.

A brief period of wellness sends him back to working in the OR, but it is not long before he receives a CT scan portraying the growth of the cancer. He begins chemotherapy–the second treatment plan–the following week. This is when his treatment’s severe side effects begin. He is no longer able to see recovery on the horizon and continues recalibrating how he envisions the rest of his life.

Because of this, his relationship with literature deepens, and he decides to prioritize his writing over his need to remain a neurosurgeon. Had he forty years left, he’d have split the time equally between medicine and writing.

Paul is rushed to the ER at almost the exact time of his daughter Cady’s birth. He makes it to Lucy’s side in time, however, lying in a cot next to her in her hospital room. The following eight months are filled with the excitement of the new baby, and Paul experiences his profoundest moments of joy. If there is one thing that he wants his daughter to know, it is that she has made him happier than he’s ever been in his life.

His health, however, is completely deteriorating, and eight months after Cady is born, Paul passes away. Lucy writes the Epilogue of the book, reflecting on the family’s final months with Paul. At the book’s close, she recounts how his family and friends decided to celebrate his life, how Paul worked relentlessly on the book through the most grueling stages of cancer, and how he hoped this book would reach and help others.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling

Book notes: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling book review summary and key ideas.

Synopsis:

“Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”

In Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, Mindy invites readers on a tour of her life and her unscientific observations on romance, friendship, and Hollywood, with several conveniently placed stopping points for you to run errands and make phone calls. Mindy Kaling really is just a Girl Next Door—not so much literally anywhere in the continental United States, but definitely if you live in India or Sri Lanka.” -Audible

Opening thoughts:

I knew of Mindy because I knew she was an actress on some shows. But after watching The Office, and finding out she was one of the writers, I gained much more respect for her and her work. I think this came up under recommended books in Audible, but hopefully this is just as entertaining as her comedy style.

Key notes:

  • One lesson she will impart to her children is if you are scared of something, that isn’t a sign you have to do it
    • It probably means you shouldn’t do it
    • Call dad or call mom immediately
  • In high school, don’t be so worried about being the most popular or pretty or best athlete or anything
    • Not only do people not care about any of that the second you graduate, but referencing your high school successes later in life makes you seem pitiful
  • It’s okay to be a quiet, observant kid
    • You’ll have plenty of time later in life to catch up
    • It’s okay to be overlooked in high school
  • When she picks songs for karaoke, she has 3 concerns:
    1. What will this song say about her?
    2. How will she sound singing it?
    3. How will it make people feel?
      • The key is that the third one matters the most by a factor of 100
  • She’s the type of person who would rather get her hopes up really high and watch them get dashed to pieces than wisely keep her expectations at bay and hope they are exceeded
  • Stress is always a terrible topic for conversation because nobody wants to hear about how stressed you are
    • Most of the time, everyone else is stressed as well
  • Advice: Write your own part
    • It is the only way she’s gotten anywhere
    • It is much harder work but sometimes you have to take destiny into your own hands
Her Favorite Comedy Moments
  • Will Ferrell in Anchorman
  • “Racial Draft Pick” on Chapelle Show
  • Will Ferrell in Talladega Nights
  • Melissa McCarthy in Bridesmaids
  • Michael Scott hitting Meredith with his car on The Office
  • Writing at its heart is a solitary pursuit
  • An Irish Exit is when you leave a party without telling anyone, presumably it is because you are too drunk to form words
  • French Exit is when you leave a party early without saying goodbye to anyone and not paying your share of the bill
Her Guide to Being an Awesome Guy
  1. Buy a well-fitting peacoat from J.Crew or a designer one on sale Black looks good on everyone and matches everything. Charcoal gray also works
  2. Have a signature drink like James Bond
  3. Own several pairs of dark washed straight leg jeans. Not boot cut or skinny, just a nice pair of Levi’s with no embellishments
  4. Wait until all the women have gotten on or off an elevator before you get on or off
  5. When you think a girl looks pretty, say it but don’t reference a thing that might reveal you know the backstage process
    • Ex: “You look gorgeous tonight” vs “I like how you did your make up
    • Also, a complement means less if you complement the thing and not te way the girl is carrying it off
      • Ex: “You look so sexy in those boots” vs “Those boots are really cool
  6. Avoid asking if someone needs help in the kitchen at a party and just start helping. Same goes with dishes.
  7. Have one great cologne that’s not from the drugstore. Wear very little of it all of the time
  8. Your girlfriends siblings or parents may be totally nuts, but always defend them
  9. Kiehls for your skin, Bumble and Bumble for your hair
    1. Maybe a comb, that is all you need
  10. She thinks guys only need two pairs of shoes. A nice pair of black shoes and A pair of Chuck Taylors
    • The key is to replace your chuck Taylor’s every single year
  11. Bring wine or chocolate to everything
  12. Get a little jealous now and again, even if you’re not strictly a jealous guy
  • Her mom has said that when one person in a relationship is unhappy, it usually means two people are unhappy but one hasn’t come to terms with it yet
  • Like her parents as an example, she thinks a good marriage is between two pals, not necessarily best friends
  • Any marriage is work, but you might as well pick work that you like

Main ideas / Themes:

  • It’s okay to be a quiet, observant kid. You’ll catch up later in life
  • Write your own part. Take destiny into your own hands
  • Being an “Awesome Guy” is mostly about simplicity in fashion and taking care of yourself the right ways
  • good marriage is between two pals
  • Any marriage is work, so be sure to pick the work you like

Closing thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book and how entertaining it was to follow Mindy’s stories. I can tell she is definitely a writer in how she tells stories and and actress by how she reads and brings life to her stories.

I can totally see her style of comedy in The Office, and it shows. It’s also really cool how she had all of this inside scoop on the show’s production, as well as stories about working as a writer in Hollywood. So far, this is my only autobiography about a TV show comedy writer.

While there might not be many takeaways to this book, it was definitely a hilarious and very enjoyable read.

Natasha Bedingfield – Angel

Natasha Bedingfield – Angel Lyrics :-
A-N-G-E-L A-N-G-E-L
Just like a shadow
I’ll be beside you
I’ll be your comfort
I’m there to guide you home
I will provide you
A place of shelter
I want a be your stone
What am I supposed to do
Tell me what you wanted me to do
I’ll make you great to be a man
With a woman who can stand
On every promise given
Making vows to please her man

If I could be your angel
Your angel, Your angel
Protect you from the pain
(from the pain)
I’ll keep you safe from danger
from danger, from danger
You’ll never hurt again
I’ll be your a.n.g.e.l
(Yeah yeah)
a.n.g.e.l, a.n.g.e.l
(Hey)

I’m gonna be your a.n.g.e.l

And let your sun shine
While I follow behind
Cause baby what ya got

With everything I’m not

Tell me why there’s so many good men
And the world’s misunderstood
He’s a dog, he’s no good
I wish somebody would
Disrespect my man
You’re gon’ have to come see me
I go hard for my baby
He’s all that I need

So if you got a good one
Put your hands up,
Come on girl and stand up
Go ahead lift your man up
Get up
If you got a good one
Put your hands up
Come on girl and stand up
Go ahead lift your man up
Get up

If I could be your angel
